Before the Opening
On the evening of an art museum's swanky pre-opening gala, chief curator Effie Spinter learns that a major acquisition deal she spearheaded has fallen through, and that she needs to come up with a viable alternative to populate the multi-million-dollar wing she convinced the museum to build, ideally by the end of the evening. The preeminent artist Anton Spinter (who also happens to be Effie's father) is in attendance, and her best hope is to persuade him to come to the rescue by donating some materials to the cause. Egomaniacal and self-serving, Anton proves difficult to pin down, and Effie's job is not made any easier by the presence of Mina Spinter, her socially anxious mother, and Mark, a member of the catering staff who seems intent on causing trouble. The characters all harbor secrets that collectively threaten to shatter the status quo of all of their lives. As the evening wears on and things begin to spiral, it seems inevitable that something will have to give... but what?
